Glue for Giro Roc Loc(6 posts)

Glue for Giro Roc
Aug 1, 2001 12:58 PM
The glue that holds the top of the Roc Loc on my Giro Helios has stopped working. I was wonder what would be a good glue for fixing this? I actually went out and bought some Lepage plastic model cement. It's suppose to be good for gluing plastic. I just wonder if it might react with the foam in the helmet.
I'm searching for a good glue for that, too...Jim Burton

but I wouldn't use that model cement. It is designed to actually weld plastic pieces together. It isn't a "glue" so much as it is a solvent. It will melt your styrofoam. When I was younger, I made the mistake of piling a bunch of model cement from a ruptured tube in a styrofoam cup. It ruined my mother's dining room table as it ate through the cup.

If you find a suitable alternative, let me know so that I can glue the velcro that attaches the rocloc to the sides!

Epoxy would probably be your best bet. The longer curing ones will yield better strength, i.e., don't use 5 min epoxy, but rather a 60 min. or longer cure time. Some of the strongest epoxies I've found are Marine Tex and J B Weld. Both are so thick, that they are a real pain to work with - but they sure won't run.
Try GOOP Marine...FlySpinner

I had a similar thing with my Bell Paradox. I used GOOP with much success. GOOP markets several formulation, but i believe the Marine version (being waterproof) is the best for this purpose.

Ditto on the Goop. Helios gave way at the strap also this season. And now the helmet has a crack between one of the vents that is not from a crash and I am not sure how it got there. Super glued it and now it needs repaired again. Maybe time for a new helmet? I see that the Eclipse is @ $70 in CC and Boreos is @ $110 in Performance. Any big diff between the 2?

I had a similar problem with a Roc-Loc 2 and someone recommended Shoe Goo. I tried it and it worked fine. Give it a shot if you don't come up with anything else.
