I am going to Colorado Springs next week and would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on some good mountain or long hill rides within reasonable proximity of the city.

Thank you for your replies.

If you are looking for climbing oriented road rides in Colorado Springs, I recommend two things, both on the North side of town... the Air Force Academy Loop and Rollercoaster Road into the Black Forest. Combine those for about a 50-60 mile road ride and although none of the climbs are longer than 2-3 miles, you'd get the burn.

Coincidently, I am heading to Colorado Springs myself for a wedding in two weeks I had the same question. My current plan is to rent a Mtn Bike (Criterium Cycles?) and try that as I am a bit concerned about road traffic (it was suggested to me that traffic can be heavy). That also saves me the trouble of getting my bike out there. I'm a bit concerend about the altitude effects as I rarely get more than a couple of hundred feet above sea level here in NJ. I'd be looking for some fairly non-technical stuff with some decent climbing.

try some of the MTB trail on this website ... www.bikecolorado.com

I live on the AF academy and the road biking is better than anything else in town. There is a really nice MTB trail on the academy but it can be very technical in some spots. BTW, Criterium rents Trek 4900 bikes in case you were curious.
