|517 miles and 18,500 ft. of climbing made this ride a challenge for me,in only my 2nd year of cycling, the first couple days I felt good, finishing the days rides before 11:00 am. Day 3 I developed an open saddle sore, and considered going home. Day 4, got up at 5:30 am and had an upset stomach, checked my water bottles to find mold growing in one of them, pitched water bottles, forced my self to drink a bottle of water and eat 2 bannanas, vomited later on the road,my resolve nearly broken,I suffered on and finished the Century day.
Day 5 I dressed my wounds and doubled my bike shorts, and felt better, was able to eat the night before, forgot to load my sleeping bag on the support vehicle, left it at campsite(what next). Day 6 was another Century to our campsite, and now I knew I could finish, day 7 was a short day,and I rolled into Muscatine,IA (54miles) in about 3 hours,I finished with 628 miles,no mechanical problems, a Band-aid on my butt, and a very sore right knee,5 team members quit,3 sagged into Muscatine,I logged more miles and learned some more hard lessons.
