Looks like WCP is going to put out the '01 TDF on DVD! cool. If you have a DVD player, ORDER IT! Maybe if we show enough interest, they'll put out more on DVD.

How good ARE the WCP TDF Videos?MeDotOrg

I saw this in the WCP catalog and was sorely tempted. My only problem is that I'm a little hesitant to buy something for $50 when I'm not sure of the quality.

How good are the WCP videos?
pretty good, acutallyHaiku d'état

I have a bunch of tour (df) tapes dating back to the late 80s, as well as a couple tours d'italia, the "stars and watercarriers", et al. some of them are "famous cycling productions", which i think was acquired by or became WCP.

my suggestion is to first check ebay for used WCP tapes, then go to WCP direct. i have the 2-tape '99 tdf on video, and have been wearing out the 2000 taped from espn, which is getting tiresome. i'm sure it'll be a few years before any of the last 3 (including this year) go on sale--actual sale--at WCP, and that's when i'll buy 'em.

quality is pretty good, plus there's some cheesy stuff in there from paul and phil in between stages in the more recent tapes, and NO COMMERCIALS.
acutally -> acTUally. DOH. NMHaiku d'état

they put out one measely offering on DVD...what's the holdup here? Is it that they have a huge stock of VHS they have to unload first? This technology has been around for long enough now that even Target has a good selection of DVDs. I seem to remember them advertising the Giro on DVD and that never materialized...what's to gaurantee this one will either. You'd think with them charging $50 a pop (I've never bought a DVD that cost more than $30 ever) they'd be doing anything they can to convert other tapes. Maybe there is a reason for the delay, but I can't think of what it could be.
Why don't they offer the 8-hr version on DVD?12x23

Reckon they're just sampling interest before offering the 'expanded video version?' I'd much rather have the DVD format, but prefer the 8-hr TdF program. Tough decision. Wish I had recorded the OLN broadcasts.
Yeah. A little common sense please.9WorCP

The prime advantage I think for the DVD format is the ease of navigating through the program which makes even more sense in an 8 hour program. Oh well, it's sure to come sooner or later. By the way, I did record the whole shebang (save for a few stray stages) and it was a PainInTheA**! I edited all of the commercials along the way and hooboy! I think I'm gonna end up with 16 hrs of video even so. the "concise," 8hr professionally edited WCP productions are the way to go. Next year I think I'll just watch the thing and fork over the $80 when the tape comes out.
what a bad joke!JohnG
