Help!...I've been off my bike for so long...vgraziano

I have recently gotten back on my bike after a few years of not riding. Stupid question but please bear with me:
What is the correct way to wrap the strap for a gear bag that fits under the saddle? I took mine off to clean it out and now can't get it to stay on securely. It's a collapsible bag with a long velcro strap. However I try to wrap the strap thru the two rings at the bottom of the saddle and around the bag, the left side of the bag is always hanging down and flopping around. I guess this is payback for not riding for so long...any advise would be appreciated.

It might help to know what brand of bag you have?

It's a Specialized bag. The strap is real long and looks like it has enough play to wrap through each ring on the bottom of the saddle, wrap around the bottom of the bag and then through the buckle. Just doesn't seem to stay put though.
