get the pawls back in the free wheel of a Campy Record hub? The hub needed servicing very badly so I cleaned everything and regreased. I can't figure how to get the little springs and pawls from moving out of place when reinserting back into the hub base. Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!

A tool should have come with the hub for this very purpose. It is a simple piece of wire in a round shape with a bend in one end so you can hook it over the other end.

If I didn't have the tool, I would probably try using a rubber band to hold the pawls in place while slipping them into the hub, and then removing it just before it gets stuck. It does take a bit of work even with the tool to get the pawls to engage and stay in place while still being able to remove the tool.

Good luck.

it just got in the way. I was able to slip the axle with the freewheel, pawls and all most of the way in. Then as the paws started to engage the hub, I used the tip of a small screwdriver and pushed each in so that it allowed the assembly to sit in and engage the pawls. A little tedious, but I am happy with the results. Thanks for your reply though.

go to your LBS who sells Campy and ask for the ~$3 special Campy tool (yes it does exist) to hold the pawls and springs together. It took me 30 minutes to get my 8 spd Mirage hub together without, but 30 seconds with this nifty tool.

Dug, please take a valium or something! You're way to harsh. You should try posting some useful information--it may make you feel better.
wrap dental floss around themclub

one turn, don't knot it, let the ends hang out when assembling, then just pull the floss out once the pawls are seated. Easy as pie.
