Effective advertising: Runaway shoes.comElena

I just saw the Runaway Shoes.Com commercial and I had an irresistably strong Pavlovian instinct to watch the TdF immediately. Funny, it was on during David Letterman. Isn't the goal of advertising to get that kind of reaction?
when I hear it makes me want to buy a mountaineer andjohnrg

then I get sick all over again and smash my tv. The most aweful advertising I have seen.

It actually makes me turn the channel whenever it comes on -- and I know that's not what advertisers want to hear ;)
It makes me praise the inventor of the MUTE button!! (NM)Cima Coppi

Funny that everyone, myself included, remembers runawayshoes.com, which isn't even a real company, but most would be hard-pressed to identify the actual advertiser -- probably not what the USPS had in mind. To me, the Worldwide phone card ads lead the way in annoyance though. But we shouldn't forget that without these annoying ads, we wouldn't be enjoying 2 hours a day of TdF coverage.

I must've seen that STOOPID ad 15 times on Sunday (during the TdF coverage on CBS), and never once realized that it was an ad for the USPS! Just what was the point of the ad? I can't remember-something about effective advertising, wasn't it??
that's what was funnyElena

A commercial for the TdF itself couldn't have perked up my ears as much and make me want to see the Tour as much as that Runaway Shoes.com thing did! I was just disappointed when Letterman came back on instead of the Tour! (nothing against Letterman, it isn't his fault he isn't Lance)

Of course, it's easy for me to joke about. I don't get OLN, so I only see these commercials during the 1/2 hr recap on Fox Sports Net. Frankly, I'd much rather get the overkill than miss the tour like this!!
I use that new invention called the VCRLC

I finally got smart and just tape it early in the day and watch it at leasure, FF past all 3 or 4 of those same commercials. It makes the whole experience better and you don't even have to wait for a commercial to get up and get a beer, while Lance is sweeting up a mountain pass.
