Non replaceable derailer hanger???Flothru

I am in the market for a new ride and while looking at the Trek OCLV's I noticed that they do not have a replaceable derailer hanger. What gives? I just lost an older much less expensive bike to an AL non-replaceable D-hanger that bent. Don't you think Trek would have thought about this or am I missing something?? When I asked this Q to the shop they were dumb founded to even discover that it was constructed that way. Any feed back would be cool.

Ride on and on...

THe majority of road bikes do not use replaceable derailleur hangers. Mountain bikes do though, for the most part. The reason comes down to chances of bending. You will have to crash for a road derailleur hanger to bend, while with a mountain bike, a foreign object could flip up and bend it. If you're looking for a road bike with a replaceable d-hanger, you'll be looking long and hard.

Snapped mine a couple years ago in a nasty crash, just took it to a Trek dealer they boxed and shipped it for $20 and it cost $70 to replace it. They simply heat up the epoxy matrix and bond in another one. Bike was ready before I was.

Worked on a gal's GT road bike this year - that hanger seems to be made of Silly Putty. It's replacable, but extremely soft she'd already torn off one rear der. and the new hanger was also bent. Used the park DAG-1 to align and it felt like butter. I'd be way pissed at those guys and either get a hanger heat treated or get one machined out of something stronger (6000 or 7000 series alu.).

upon recommedation form the local shop I bent it back carefully. Never had to replace the "replaceable" hanger!

This was on an Aluminum Fisher Sugar 2.
