I'm looking to buy a used bike and was wondering what a decent road bike weighs? My brother has a cheap Diamondback and we estimate that thing at about 28 lbs.

The new Bicycling magazine has a GT starter bike. It weights 23 lbs with Tiagra components.
You should be able to break 25lbKerry Irons

With a decent starter bike (Al frame) and 23 lb is not much out of reach. 28 lb reminds me of my youth - Sears "racing bike" made in Austria, lugged steel frame, steel rims, steel bars, stem, and seat post, etc. 29 lbs. And that was 25 years ago.

My first recent bike purchase was a '97 Bianchi Veloce. Steel frame, steel fork, and entry level components. It weighed under 23 pounds with pedals. Depending on your budget, you should easily be able to find a bike that comes in at or under this weight.
Depends on how big you are (nm)Mabero
