|I'm looking to get into road biking and I was hoping for some guidance on decent beginner bikes for under $800.00. Preferably with a triple-chainring and at least Tiagra or 105 shifters. Any suggestions? I'm 5'10" and I weigh 200lbs. Thanks for any advice.|

|check into the Giant OCR series, they are very affordable and come with a pretty good price spec.
be careful with sizing though, the compact frame requires a little more detail to fit than a traditional non-sloping top tube.

|The C'Dale R400 is quite good at around $800, as is one of the lower-end Bianchis. For a bit less, the KHS Flite 300 is a good buy. I just recently got a LeMond Nevada City on sale at around $700 and couldn't be happier this side of winning the lottery or having a TV set up w/ an OLN subscription dropped into our apartment. There are actually many pretty good bikes in this price range. Make sure you get one that fits you well, and have fun shopping.

|I just bought a Giant OCR3 for about $600 (with tax). Eventually, I will either upgrade or buy up, but this bike is a really nice one for the money. It's being built for me tomorrow, and my LBS will set it up to my measurements. You will probably need the large frame, and from there the bike can be tweaked to your particulars.
The sales guy also told me that he has a hard time keeping the OCR series in stock, because they are such a good buy. While I am normally a bit suspicious of marketing talk, I'd have to agree... The OCR's are a great value.

|You can really get a lot more bike if you spend that $800 on a 2-3 year old used bike.|

I reentered the sport recently and built up an older "retro" ride and then wanted to try a "modern" bike. Picked up a Univega Modo for a bit under 600$ from a net dealer. Campy Mirage 9 triple. Columbus steel isn't the magic words it was 15 tears ago but it still gives a great ride and I recommend this bike as something almost tailor-made for what you're looking for.

|I purchased a 1998 Schwinn Peloton on eBay for $612 (all-Ultegra and Reynolds 853 frame) and I've seen the 1999 Peloton still on sale at my LBS for $950.|| |
