How long does it take?(3 posts)

How long does it take?Fast but slow
Jul 20, 2001 3:26 PM
I've been riding on the road for about a year and can average about 17 mph for 2-3 hours. I started out riding 12 mph for an hour or less. I know this doesn't sound fast but I'm only 15. What is the best advice you could give me to be more competitive in my races and how long does it take to average 25 mph or more if I currently ride 100 miles per week? Currently I fininsh 4th every race and the same people win, etc.

Thanks

Be watching for a growth spurt on your part in the next year or so, as a result your muscles will continue to grow, you get stronger and faster and can turn bigger gears for longer periods of time. Be Patient and do not over train.

I would think that you need to do more specific workouts for speed and endurance, check out these sites and see what kind of program you can work out for yourself. 25 Mph average is a high goal you set for yourself, be patient and don't over train or you'll burn out and be back to 12 mph.

Best of luck to you, Lance, Jr.
