Hey all,

I will be in Rock Island on business from August 16 through the 24th and was wondering if someone could recommend some good routes through farmland/along the Mississippi I could take from downtown (I am staying at the Four Points Hotel by the Casino) as well as any local club rides I might join up on.

I will only have time to ride in the early morning am hours (6-8). Also, can anyone recommend a bike shop in town?

Thanks

mike

Well, Rock Island is the first place I lived where I did some serious riding.(Went to college at Augie) 2 hours is a bit short to really get out of town and back but fortunately there is some pretty good riding in the cities. Check out the route around Arsenal Island, and the Duck Creek bike path. There are some great small hills and brick streets in Bettendorf. A road out of Davenport called Telegraph will get you out of town. There are a lot of pretty parks in the QC's, I used to just link them up on the quietest streets I could find and make up routes. It is a great place to explore with truly old neighborhoods, industrial areas and great views of the rivers. If you can find the time, ride to Muscatine along the river, you can go down in Iowa and back in Illinois. A good bike shop there is called "On Two Wheels." May be gone, it has been 15 years since I lived there. Have fun, I would love to visit the QC's again.
