Hey there folks! I have a 2000 record threadless headset, and a kinesis carbon fork...When I tighten the 5 mm allen bolt to set the pre-load, no matter how loose or tight the adjustment, I get binding noises. This continues after the stem is fastened to the steerer tube. Now, this noise occurs even when the adjustment is barely tightened...like 1/16 of a complete turn. What's up?

I have a new cane creek integrated threadless headset on another bike, and similar things are hapening.
To say the least, it's un-nerving.
thanks.

Your headtube needs to be faced and the headset cups pressed in straight. When either of the cups are not in properly, the headset will bind. it is not the fault of the headset, rather the frame. Also, the bearing race on the fork might not be on properly either. It would be wise to check that aswell.
