I'm interested in a Marin city/road bike(not racing)
and would like to know which is a good model?
Also, any other comparable makes for a novice rider?(looking to
stay under $1000)
Thanks!

The city/hybrid models try to cover rough road/off road/all road, and wind up doing nothing well. I've owned a Marin Vicenza for a couple of years. They are exceptionally well made in Italy out of Columbus steel tubing and are equipped with Campagnolo components. IMHO, you get a lot of bang for the buck. Good luck.
