road vs. tri bike questionsmtnhigh

I'm contemplating a new bike purchase and based on my riding (1-2 hour training 3 days a week with a longer ride once a week or so plus short - medium distance triathlon races and occassional crits) some lbs people are suggesting i look into a tri bike instead of a a road geometry because even with aerobars they say you can't get the aeor position you can get on a tri bike plus you'll train your legs more for what you'll be doing and they also say that the geometry is fine for longer rides too. Any thoughts from open minded experienced tri-road people? suggestions for bikes or features to look for? One thought i was given is to look into a bike like the cervelo's that have seatposts that can be switched from road to tri angle (74 - 78) not sure whether this would just confuse the body or would be a good compromise to have both. I assume two stwms would be necessary for the length on top to be right. thanks!

the other factor in my question was wheel size. People say you go faster with 650c wheels. are they appropriate for training rides too? I've also recently heard that in fact on 56cm or smaller bikes that 700c wheels are actually more aero because the 700c frames have shorter head tubes and the longer 650c head tubes are less efficient than the larger wheels. thoughts?
