best tire for the money?dustin73

i've gotta replace my specialized tires 'cause the tread is like tearing or something. it's weird, and looks like it's gonna blow any second. Lisa (the lady at my LBS) said that when a tire gets like that, it could go 10mi or 100mi. so i'm gonna try to replace as soon as possible...BUT, i'm short of money so i need something good for little $$$...something fast, durable, and with some traction.

unless i can justify (with y'all's help) buying some $40 tires...

Don't know if it's the best value, but I'm having good luck with the new Michelin Axial Carbons. They're about $30 each in the US (I got mine in the UK for about $22 each). So far I've put almost 600 miles on mine in about 3 weeks with no punctures or abnormal wear and I'm on the large side at about 200 lbs on less than ideal roads over here in England.

have 1000+ miles on a pair, only two punctures (rear) due to road garbage. relatively low rolling resistance and easy to mount/remove from cxp33s (not tight--can remove almost w/out levers). perform well in rain. only problem i've had is the tube adhering to the inside of the tire, but that could have been due to them being in there so long before requiring a change, and having been initially installed w/out baby powder...i would buy another pair at this point...we'll see how they hold up over the next 1000...
