I'm 16 years old & I started cycling around Sept. of 2000, (almost a year ago). I started off averaging 16.0 mph, now I'm up to 20 mph. At 6 months I was averaging probably around what your'e averaging now.
I wouldn't worry about it, just keep riding for a couple of more months and you will notice a difference.
Summer vacation has really helped me improve...( I got nothing else to do but ride). |

| re: Best ride when first getting into cycling? | CFVeloDan Jul 9, 2001 10:54 PM | | Hey, I am 17. Started riding my new mt. bike in Sept. (on road mostly)
Decided I wanted a road bike, got a loan off a family friend. Bought a $3700 bike. After putting 1000 miles on a 27-28 lb mt.bike (i averaged about 16-17 on it w/ hills)then jumping on my new road bike 6 days ago, I felt like a rocket. I can average 20-22 for about 30-40 miles before my energy goes away. So what i am trying to say is after traing steadily for w/ a good amount of resistance you are bound to get faster. |

| Proof that youth is wasted on the young!! | Lazy Jul 10, 2001 2:43 PM | | Just kidding fellas. Good to see some young guys riding on the road. Keep it up. I, like Mabero, wish I still had a summer vacation. Even still I don't have anything better to do than ride, but unfortunately my folks won't support me anymore so I have to do sucky stuff like go to work. :-( |
