Mine came a few days ago when i did a solo half century at 17.3 ave. from what i understand this isnt a great distance or speed, but i'm 15 and have been riding about 6 months, is this a good start or should i shut my mouth and push harder?

I would say it's a good start.
I'm 16 years old & I started cycling around Sept. of 2000, (almost a year ago). I started off averaging 16.0 mph, now I'm up to 20 mph. At 6 months I was averaging probably around what your'e averaging now.

I wouldn't worry about it, just keep riding for a couple of more months and you will notice a difference.

Summer vacation has really helped me improve...( I got nothing else to do but ride).
I wish I still had summer vacations (nm)Mabero

Hey, I am 17. Started riding my new mt. bike in Sept. (on road mostly)
Decided I wanted a road bike, got a loan off a family friend. Bought a $3700 bike. After putting 1000 miles on a 27-28 lb mt.bike (i averaged about 16-17 on it w/ hills)then jumping on my new road bike 6 days ago, I felt like a rocket. I can average 20-22 for about 30-40 miles before my energy goes away. So what i am trying to say is after traing steadily for w/ a good amount of resistance you are bound to get faster.
What city do you guys live in? I'm in Phoenix, AZ (nm)ALLEN

Just kidding fellas. Good to see some young guys riding on the road. Keep it up. I, like Mabero, wish I still had a summer vacation. Even still I don't have anything better to do than ride, but unfortunately my folks won't support me anymore so I have to do sucky stuff like go to work. :-(

My 17 year old son has just gotten the cycling bug. He wants to ride everyday they ride the Tour. Today we went for a nice easy ride and he was disappointed. On thurs. he wants to go 50. I'll let you if he drops me. A very real possiblility. Yea, I know they are riding tomorrow. but I'm the single dad so......... Is that an excuse? LOL
