Ti blends..Jay H

Is there any noticeable difference between the different alloy blends of Titanium? I.e. 6/4, 3/2.5, etc.. does one typically have more durability than the other or is one typically cheaper than the other to mill but might not be as stiff per pound as the other?

I had no idea how they did this. After reading it, I think I'll stay with my Reynolds 853 steel and protect my green karma.

The bike I ride now is a Lemond Zurich, full 853 and my karma is being banked as I speak. I've started to commute this year, 1450 miles since late March so the green points I have accumulated by saving gas in my car is going towards a custom Ti bike... :-) I'll still be commuting on my Zurich after I get it, but I'll keep the Ti bike for sunny days and long weekend rides...

The reason I ask, is that I'm getting serious bike lust here... Figure I might want to go custom and might go with 650c wheels (I'm 5'4" and have ridden a 700c Lemond Zurich for the past 3 years) if I can try one on somehow or if I can get good opinions on the differences...
Trying to decide between a Serotta Concours/Legend vrs Merlin Road, vrs a Seven Axiom Ti. Going custom all the way and basically it'll probably come down to whichever is the cheapest of the three. All are 3/2.5 Ti, Seven has there Argen and Serotta is Ancotech, I haven't research the Merlin website but that merlin link was a good start.

Have Seven send you a full brochure. You will learn more about ti than you want to and begin to understand how Seven got their reputation. I would love to have your dillema. Also, from a price standpoint the axiom, legend and extralight are pretty close in price and those 3 frames have butted and or tapered tubes throughout, the other two do not. Go seven.

Already did, the Seven brochure is on the way... the Axiom is what got me to this point and the fact that I've kicked up my riding this year to the point where I feel I can justify having a nice bike in addition to my commuter. High Performance Touring is what I do, although I do race triathlons and stuff, most of my racing is off-road.

Serotta entered the picture next cause they are not that far in Glen Falls, NY. They do owners club rides and I figure any warentee issues should be taken care of quicker than say Merlin or Seven... Merlin was added cause I felt I should consider them but the extralight was out cause they don't put rear rack brazeons them which I might want for some packed touring. Seven and Serotta give you the options. I'm waiting for my Seven brochure and will probably bike down to the local bike dealer that sells them and talk to them about sizing and the turnaround time for custom frames.. it's a bit late in the season considering I'd expect to wait 6-8 weeks if not more...
