Endurox R4 vs. Gatorade vs. Cytomax vs. RevengeCyclingWolf
Jul 4, 2001 11:22 PM
I am a fitness/recreational Road Cyclists riding approx. 100 - 125
miles a week (more as time permits) with an average 40-50 per out-
ing. I just surpassed 1000 mile mark for the season and I normally
ride with 2 water bottles.

It has been suggested that I should be using somekind of sports
drink vs. pure water to replenish sodium, blah, blah and not to mention this link from Lances site:

ince I am not a racing cycolists (yet!) and doing this purely for the fitness is there a reason to purchase other mixes then Gatorade?
Not looking for a cheap alternative and willing to spend the money if the bennefit is there.

As I do not eat regular meal I do take a supplement Centrum Perfomance ome-a-day anything else I should be looking at or considering.

Looking forward to your responses

Answer to your first question: no. Answer to your second question: change your eating habits and start eating balanced meals.
BTW which one of these has the least artificial color?WadeOmatic

For health and nutrition I try not to ingest artificial colors or flavors. There was a non-colored Gatorade, but I can't find it anymore. I'd like to find a nother sport drink without the artificial junk.
I use Revenge....johnrg

One bottle of Revenge and one bottle of water. I felt like it helped when I tried it a year and a half ago and use it daily. The mango flavor is my fav.. It's a matter of what you prefer. Centrum is kind of a rip-off as you can get generic versions at the grocery store which are the same. Eat real food too.

I'm fond of cytomax for long rides and races and I swear by Endurox R4 for post ride recovery. Most days I go the cheap route and just put a little bit of honey in my water bottle and bring along some fig newtons on the ride. I also find Gatorade to work nicely, and you can save a lot of money by purchasing the powder.
I've had good luck with cytomaxpmf

Some people can't stand it though. I think its a personal thing. Try several and see what works best for you.

I first used cytomax on a century years ago. The Blue and Grey held in the Shenandoah valley. It was a great ride done by this little cycling club called the Winchester Wheelmen. Lots of climbs and great views. They quit doing it several years ago. I was bummed. They even gave custom aerator socks instead of t-shirts ... cool. Anyway, they served cytomax at the rest stops and the next day I had no muscle soreness. I guess the "beat the burn" slogan was true for me. I've used it ever since. Its a bit expensive. I've found it on sale at Performance for $25 for the big can.

I also drink a can of Slim Fast after a long ride. Its got ideal carb to protein ratio for a recovery drink. Tastes pretty good and its cheap ($1 per can) and portable.
it makes a good projectile weapon too!Duane Gran

I swear by Endurox also. After and during long hard rides, I dring the stuff and within an hour after the ride, the pain in the legs goes away. Also, the next morning, there is no pain either. I used the stuff on the Bike Tour of Colorado last year and definately noticed a difference.

Anyone try the new Accelerade by the same people as Endurox R4? It's on sale at Performance and I wondered if anyone had the chance to try it.

Endurox R4 (for me) is a great post ride drink. It's a little expensive but it will help with muscle recovery.

For rides longer than 20 miles I mix a scoop of Endurox with a scoop of Soy Protein Powder and dollop of hammer gel and water.

You can get there at

Hey, you get a free sample if you want/ I tried the level 2 stuff, and looks like I'll be checking in to buying it. Price is pretty good.

My even cheaper alternative is mixing 50% water with 50% Orange, Grape, Apple juice. BUT it should be 100% juice, not reconstituted high-fructose stuff.
