Has anyone here noticed the lunacy on the photo gallery comment section. If one posts a photo of their bike several people will post snide and rude comments about the machine, especially if it is a Litespeed or Trek. I thought we were supposed to be enjoying one another's company as lovers and riders of bikes. I don't get the negativity.

...I went over to that portion of the site. Yes, it is rediculous. There is no reason to be bashin a decent Trek, Litespeed, or C-40. Although, I have to say, that Fuji Cross is flame bait. If the owner likes it, that's all that matters.

Surprised to see no one is bashing my C'Dale.

I guess they need a Photo Gallery Pact.

Have noticed and find it odd.

I don't know where the people posting all the negative crap on the Gallery come from, but they're not regulars here. The Photo Gallery attracts an element that lacks the attention span and the knowledge to read and respond to a thread in a meaningful way. A small group over there seems to check the photos on a regular basis for anything that doesn't meet their approval and they cut loose. As with the occasional flame-baiters on the message board, responding to them is like throwing blood in shark-infested waters.

The scary thing is they seem to have a hint of knowledge on cycling, so either they are cyclists or have gone to the effort of finding out which bikes are wrth mocking.

I'm not sure which possibilty I find more sad...

I have noticed that too...criticism is one thing but when it becomes negative what is the real point? I love looking at some of the bike pictures cause well let's face it: bikes are beautiful.

This is the part that is strange, I love to see bikes and photos of bikes and feel a kinship with other riders. I don't understand the rudeness and can't see a point in bothering to post a snide and purposely nasty comment.

You're right about most of the bike-bashers having some knowledge of bikes. I can't imagine that any non-cyclist is going to make an effort to learn about bikes just for the sake of posting negative comments on the Photo Gallery. My guess is that most of the negative posters are cyclists with self-esteem problems. The sad part is that people will post really ugly garbage about the set-up of bikes and later try to claim that they're "just trying to help." Obviously there is a big difference between:

"Dude, you're a total moron. What are you doing with your bars so high? Why don't you just put some safety brakes on it, flip the drops up, and get it over with? Loser."

and

"Your bars seem a bit high. Do you feel comfortable with them at that height? Have you tried experimenting with them a bit lower? Thanks for posting a picture. Happy riding."

Oh well we're never going to eliminate all of the bike-bashers, but maybe the negative posts will decrease if we ignore them.

"IDIOT, n. A member of a large and powerful tribe whose influence in human affairs has always been dominant and controlling. The Idiot's activity is not confined to any special field of thought or action, but "pervades and regulates the whole." He has the last word in everything; his decision is unappealable. He sets the fashions and opinion of taste, dictates the limitations of speech and circumscribes conduct with a dead-line."

I quit looking there for that very reason, some really nice bikes but some really worthless comments. Don't dare post a pic of my Airborne, lest all the China/titanium/cheap titanium/shimano/roadie bashers jump on my @$$.

It's mean out there. I'm not sure I understand the strong emotions that bike equipment draws out. (what do runners flame each other about?). You can't win: if you have a nice/expensive bike you're a poser; if its utilitarian you're a Fred. I think I'll keep my photos to myself.

I've reported rude and nasty comments to the site administrators and they deleted them. They stated they "try" to block those particular flamers from the site after the deletions. Maybe the blocks work maybe they don't.
