Are IF bikes held in the same regard as Seven and Serotta? I was just on their website and they have some sweet looking bikes.

Of the considerable heap of top-level bikes I've had past and present, my IF Deluxe mountain bike is the only frame I've owned that does not have even the most minor flaw on it. Welds, everything. Not even a bubble in the paint, anywhere. The ride is also excellent.

That said, test ride the IF road bike. Craftsmanship is one thing, but IF's Serotta's, Seven's, Litespeeds, Waterfords, whatever, they all have equally good but different personalities.
Was IF bought out???Jim Burton

I don't know much about IF frames from personal experience, but from what I understand and have read, they take the same care and bring an equal amount of skill to all of thier frames the way other small companies do, like Serotta, Seven, etc. Maybe someone else can help with this, but I believe I read on this board that IF was bought out by a larger company recently and the quality had suffered a bit. I could be completely wrong about this. (Please, someone who knows more should add a thought or two.) Otherwise, I have heard nothing but good things about IF, including quite a bit from the MTB crowd.

It's funny, but IF Crown Jewel seems to be the bike to bash at the moment. I wonder whether this is because of the recent negative review by Robert Millar. At least the article was negative in the sense that Millar thinks the bike doesn't make sense in that it's a strange (in his opinion) mix of old and new. I don't remember reading many negative comments about the IFCJ before the Millar review. In fact, almost everything I read was very positive, with the exception of some dislike of the color scheme. I've never ridden an IF and therefore have no opinion about its ride. However, many people seem to feel qualified to criticize the ride of a bike without ever having thrown a leg over it.

I've put 1800+ solid miles on mine and I love it. I just took it down a mountainside and even at 50+ mph it felt stable and true.

BTW -- you can get any color you want ;)
