853 has 60% higher strength and made into thiner/lighter tubeset (3lbs frame vs 4.8lbs). 520 is cheaper thus found on entry level road frames and great touring bikes like Bianchi Volpe. 520 has longer fatigue life and softer ride.. best choice for double/tripple centuries, randoneers love it.

Is that a size 43 perhaps with tubes full of helium? Cycle guide tested a Zurich 853 with a frame weight of 4 pounds 4 oz in a size 58, and Bicycling tested a IF Crown Jewel in size 58 with a frame weight of 3 pounds 12 oz. 833 seems to compare weight wize with the older Columbus EL-OS which when built into a Carrera Zeus, weighed 4 pounds 4 oz.in size 58 in the same biclcyl guide test as the Zurich. The zeus however had a lugged and chrome plated frame which added some weight,so maye the typical 853 tubeset is a bit porkier than EL-OS.

FWIW, Waterford's brochure says my 56cm 2200 frame (853 main triangle, not sure about the stays -- they may be True Temper) weighs in at 3 pounds 10 ounces. This is roughly comparable to the IF frame, except Waterford frames are of lugged construction, of course. Modern investment cast lugs are quite light.

3.5-4lbs is good weight for light steel frame
