How often do you regrease your hubs?Maui

How many miles do you ride between regreasing your hubs?

Also, would you consider repacking them if you were caught in 2 consecutive heavy rains each lasting 2 hours. I was halfway through my morning ride and was completely soaked by the heavy rain for 2 hours.

I have ultegra hubs and haven't taken them apart since I bought them 1000 miles ago. As such, I'm not familiar with the protection offered by the seals.

Your hub will tell you when it needs attention. Miles are not a good indicator as riding conditions vary alot (i.e. your 2 rain events).

if Shim road seals are half as good as MTB chances are you will never need to regrease your hubs. Have a set with ~2500mi mud, rain, creek Xings name it!

Turn your bike and spin wheel by hand if you hear noise or wheel isn't smooth and stops soon or your feel play in hub when rock rim from side to side time for rebuild. Otherwise why fix it if it ain't broken?

Other grease has tendency to dry out (~5 years) so if you ride 100mi a year ;)

I used to regrease my Ultegra hubs every 5k miles. There was usually decent grease still there. Check the cones for pitting, you may want to replace the ball bearings. I also did some repacks for friends who left their hubs go much longer, they did not look great but were still OK. Ultegra hubs have a simple rain and dirt seal, they are not truly sealed, nor do they have sealed bearings, the good side of this is that you can repack these hubs in a few minutes once you have done it a couple of times. A few occasional rains should not bother them much but I would increase the frequency if riding in the rain is a regular event for you.

Thanks for the response. I didn't think that road hubs would need frequent regreasing but I wasn't sure. I regrease my xt mountain hubs every 7 or 8 hundred miles or so depending on the trail conditions.

recommend using graphite bearing grease /you can pick it up cheaply everywhere/. It is better in dealing with water contamination, second graphite works even if grease dries out completely. Sure everyone has own preference
