CAAD4 '98 vs CAAD4 '01: differences??thewheeldeal

it used to be that at Cannondale, there was one frame and the models differed only in the components and the forks used. Of course now there are the CAAD4, 5 and 6. Does anyone know if any differences exist between an older CAAD4 frame and fork, such as '98 or '99, compared to CAAD4 frames and forks of 2001 and 2002 model years?

I can't answer that question directly, cuz as you know, manufactures can make changes in a product even within a specific year, let alone over a period of years without notifying the customer... but, manufactures also like to recoup their tooling investment ASAP, which means, they'd rather not keep tweaking an older design, especially if they've got newer (CAAD5 and CAAD6), higher end ones already out there too.

I'd guess that there is no appreciable difference in any CAAD4 (likewise with the CAAD3).

Be the bike.

To my knowledge, there were no differences in the frame itsself, but a variety of forks hace been used on the CAAD4. Also there were also typically more than one frame in the lineup in the past. Caad2 was the low end at the time caad3 was upper end. similar deal with the older 3.0 and 2.8 series. At one time there was even a crit series frame mixed in with the others.

Only differance should be the head tube, now built for a 1 1/8" fork stearer tube. The rest of the frame should be unchanged. There has been several forks available with the CADD 4 frame, from carbon legs only to full carbon.

I mean, what year and what model frame? I may be looking to pick up a used frame and would like a 1-1/8 head-tube model.

Thanks,
