Any feedback on either shoe would be great, I have time pedals and wide feet that is why I am looking at these two.
Also where is the best place to buy ?
The best price I found is 229 at performance for the Carnac's.
Thanks in advance.

Go with the Carnac, they are much better shoes, specially if you have wide feets. I do too and it is the only shoe that i feel comfy in. You won't regret it.

Good luck!

Legends have the wide toe box, not the Ellipse. I have a pair of Legends and a pair of Carnac mtn bike shoes (pre Syruis). The Legends are much roomier. I've been using these shoes for years, they're great. I'm on my second pair. They have an adapter that works with Time cleats (the best pedal around IMNSHO). Try
They often have good prices on shoes. Call them, their web site isn't alaways up to date.

If you get the Legends, order 1/2 size smaller than you typically wear.

So do they have the same adapter as the ellipse ? My understanding was that the ellipse has is a insert for the shoe. When you 1/2 half size smaller are you talking US or euro ? Do you know if all Carnac's run smaller ? Thanks

I think all the Carnac road shoes have the same sole (USC3) and will have the same adapter. Basically, its a plate that fits into an indentation in the bottom of the sole. Colorado Cyclist has a pretty good picture of what they look like. These should come with the shoe. Anyone charging you extra for an adapter is ripping you off. They work fine with Time pedals as far as being able to adjust the cleat. Only the Time shoes are better in that respect (they're not bad shoes either -- fairly roomy -- you might want to look at them). I've ridden Carnac Legends for 5 years now. No complaints. They're a bit ugly, but they feel great (which is the important part).

The half size I mentioned is the euro size. I wear size 45 euro shoes. The Legends I have are 44.5. I initially bought the 45's but returned them because they were a tad too big. The Carnac mtn bike shoes I have are a 45 and fit well. I think only the Legends tend to be sized this way. If you truly have a wide foot, these are the shoes you should get. Yeah, they're expensive, but they last a long time and are very comfortable. I figure if I'm spending hours and hours on a bike, shoes and shorts are not a place to be thrifty. Do shop though. I bet you can find them for a lot less than $220. Thats full retail.

"Where is the best place to buy?"

At your LBS. Go to all the ones in your area and try on all of the shoes that they offer. Then buy the ones that fit you the best.

People wouldn't think of buying a pair of running shoes or dress shoes without trying them on, don't do it with cycling shoes.

And, I apologize for my rant, but so many people don't know what they are missing by finding a pair of great fitting shoes.

These are a great pair of shoes worn by Cipo, Ivan Quaranta, Vandenbroucke, etc. Along with Sidi Energy, NW are quite popular in the peloton. Unlike bike frames and components, most teams don't require riders to wear a particular brand. The riders usually choose what they prefer to wear, and if they are big names they can also get a endorsement deal out of it.

Northwave evolutions are very light, the carbon sole is stiff, the interior is comfy and roomy and the ergonimically designed tongue ensures you have a custom fit. The best part is that the soles are replaceable--if you damage em in an accident, or just wear them out, you can replace them. They are available for $120 at Normally they sell for the twice the amount.

I have tried these at my LBS and they tend to be heavier than the NW. If you look like the postie-look you need to get them!
I have tried both.LWL

I used the Elliple for about a year. They were very comfy when I first tried them on, but after about 1/2 hour on the bike I felt a bump in the sole. It drove me crazy, it was like riding with a pebble under the sole pad. I checked the screws that were supplied and they seemed to be to long. I cut them down, still had the problem. I sent the shoes back to Sinclaire Imports, they sent me a new pair. I felt the same bump even with the short screws. I sent that pair back and went with a 1/2 size larger. Felt the same bump, put in a thicker sole pad, still felt the bump. I could feel the bump with my fingers on all the left shoes that I received. After all that I gave up.
Out of all the shoes that I tried the NW Evolutions were the most comfortable. They are also lighter than the Carnacs. The Sole plate is the adapter and it runs the whole length of the shoe for a very stiff sole, stiffer than the Ellipse. When I stand and push hard, I am amazed how stiff the sole plate is and I have the plastic sole plate, you can also get it in carbon, even stiffer.
Go try the Northwaves I think they are a big step up from the carnacs.
Thanks, LWL
