Trek OCLV 110 vs. 120jpa
Jun 26, 2001 10:39 PM
Anyone with experience riding both versions please give an evalution of the ride quality? Please skip the obvious such as price, color, weight, etc. What I'm after is the differences between how the two bikes ride, how they feel, climb, sprint, etc. Thanks!

I have both and ride 60cm. The 5900 is much more compliant, a lot like my L'speed Classic. However, it is plenty stiff in the bottom bracket. It is my choice for long rides, centuries, etc. If I had to have only one bike, the 5900 would be it.

I've ridden both - bought the 110. Main difference for me wasn't so much the weight, it was the fork that came on the 5900. The 5900 uses a straight bladed fork (found on the Klein bikes) whereas the 5500 uses the standard Trek version. BIG difference on downhills - 40+ mph downhill with confidence (flying by my buddies on their 5500's). Go for the 5900 and swap out the Sestriere's for Ksyriums - it's a great ride.
