Measuring a Stem?Mothhunter

I need to measure my stem and was wondering where to measure from. It's a threaded stem if that makes a difference. Thanks for the help.

From the center of the handlebar to the center of the expander bolt. Sometimes, riser stems are measured by their "projected length" but that is a non-uniform convention. The center-to-center method gives you a standard of comparison.
But there are different ways of doing that, tooDMoore

Older style, forged Al stems (Cinelli XA, etc) tend to be measured along the top of the stem extension. Welded stems (steel, ti, some others) tend to measure along the middle of the extension. The net result is that a 12 cm stem measured along the top will about about 5mm shorter than a 12 cm stem measured along the side.
