Any thoughts on the Bike Friday folding bikes?JIM LUKENS

Seems a pretty cool idea to be able to do a bike tour and then fold the bike up to fly back home. It sounds like they're well-made, but the only problem is these bikes are only available by ordering over the web (if you live on the east coast).
Anybody here have any experience with these bikes, performance and durability-wise?

They are pretty cool. We really hated working on them at the shop, mostly because they're a little unruly in the stands and hard to work on in general. But then a couple of good customers asked for them, and we got some in for them. They are unbelievable. If you close your eyes when you ride them, you wouldn't know that you're on anything but your normal bike. They handle and ride just like a 700c bike. I was absolutely amazed when I rode one. Your bike shop can take care of the transaction for you, but might not be very eager, as there's very little money to be made on the deal- Bike Friday gives the shop like a $100 margin on a $2,000 bike that takes all afternoon for your best mechanic to figure out.

if you are looking for a top quality folding bike check out Independent Fabrications. I have seen a couple of crown jewels set up (one of them belongs to a guy that works at IF)so that they can be broken down. Check out the coupling in this picture from the IF website.
