|Lovely evening last night so off for a ride with my neighbour. His bike is looking a bit the worse for wear, but more of that later. Despite a hangover, his, and lack of sleep, mine, we stormed off into a nice strong headwind. The first 300m climb seemed easy and was followed by a lovely switch-back 15% gradient descent (max speed 33mph) down into the steep valley and back up the other side. The climb gets steeper and steeper until a short 20% section with a hairpin. Just past that at ~10mph it happened. Psst...my friend's back tyre had worn completely through and died in a puff of dust. A vain attempt to fix it failed in under a mile.
But, on the bright side it didn't happen on the switch-back descent, that would have been nasty, and we were a few yards from a public phone (and they are not very common). So I rode home solo and my friend's Dad drove out to pick him up.
Good job it was the longest day...
