Cycling News is reporting this morning Gilberto Simoni is not riding the TdF, but rather is riding the Tour de Suisse and the preparing for the Vuelta.

It looks like we'll never know if he'd be threat to Lance and Jan.

Any thoughts??
I guess the question now is....Lazy

Will he be a threat to Heras in the Vuelta? That's a bummer that he's not riding the TdF. Who will be the team leader for Lampre I wonder.

Simoni out is not a surprise--It's been hinted for some time. He will definitely be a threat to Heras in the Vuelta if he chooses to go for the overall. He finished well down last year, but won the nastiest stage, the Angliru. But just him being there should make the race a lot more exciting to follow. Watch it live on OLN! Yippee!

As for Lampre, I'm sure VDB is out, so Caminzend will probably lead in the TDF. I doubt they would go for the overall anyway, so "leader" doesn't mean much. And going for the overall doesn't mean much either with Lance and Jan around!

I would love to see Simoni take on Lance right now in Switzerland. Simoni is remaking himself as the new "Lance," using similar training methods and strategies, and even Lance's cool, calculated "I don't feel tired. Are you tired?" expression when doing those nasty climbs. Jan didn't ride the Giro seriously, and probably won't do the Vuelta, so we won't get to see an Ullrich/Simoni matchup until next year.

that's what Cyclingnews is reporting today. He would like to test his legs against lance at the Swiss Tour to determine whether he can do the Tour.
