Does anyone know if there exist bar ends for a flat handlebar that would give me the positions of drop handlebars. I'm trying to make a cheap mtn bike to road bike conversion. I tried the components forum but it doesn't get the traffic this forum gets. There was some mention on an earlier post here but no idea where to get them.

Never heard of them but then I live in the UK. You may find it cheaper just buying some wide drop handlebars as bar ends can be as dear. That's if they will fit your stem and you can access the brakes and gear changers. Could be a bit risky if you wanted to brake whilst on the drops. Think safety first.

Why bother trying to buy a bunch of parts that won't make a road bike out of a mtn bike? I put 1" slicks on my mountain bike and it still did not compare to a road bike because of body position and frame setup.

I bet if you could buy a working road bike on Ebay for $100 or less. There are usually some nice 80s japanese road bikes that go for about $100. I just got a lugged steel nishiki for $50.

just thought i'd give you alternative to a frankenstein bike.

i think these are what you're after. bare in mind after setting your MTB up for road use you'll probably end up wanting a real road bike. My point being don't spend too much converting.
