Maybe somebody can shed some light on this for me: is there something like the Tour de France for women and/or why are there no women in the Tour?

A "Tour de France Feminene(sp)" does exist. It started in 1984, and is significantly shorter than the mens tour, but it does cross most of France. The women climb on the same roads as most of the men. I think is starts not long after the mens tour ends. Can anyone else help shed light on this?

Yes, was called the Tour de France Feminine (or something like that) when it first started, back in the late 80s-early 90s. First winner was an American (Marianne Martin). Now called La Grande Boucle.

Why no women in the Tour? Same reason none in the Super Bowl, Stanely Cup Finals, World Series, NBA Finals, etc. There are no women riding for UCI elite teams.
