I am new to road bikes. I am looking at a Cannondale 2000 R4000 with 3000 miles on it for $1400. Is this a reasonable buy?

with an AL bike, I'd stil want a warranty, though. You won't get one if you buy it used.

regardless of whether it's a "good deal" are you sure you like road biking enough to spend over a grand -- considering that you are still new to road biking? Don't get me wrong, if you got the cash, spend it any way you want.
But I wouldn't recommend that anyone spend that kind of money until they're sure they enjoy the sport and actually will ride the bike. Until you get pretty good at it, you'll get over 95 percent of the same performance from a $400 or $500 used bike.
Sorry, don't mean to preach.
