I am looking at a used road bike for my first road bike. I am an aggresive mountain biker but want to explore the road for fitness and fun. Looking at a Trek 2300 and a Devinci ottobaun both 1998. Wondering if anyone has hear any good or bad report and whether these bikes could hold up to some light touring if necessary.

Thanks for your time and input. Jason

I can only give you input on the Trek 2300. I have been riding a Trek 2200 for three years now, the only major difference is the components (2200- shimano 105), (2300-shimano ultegra). I have put about 6000 miles on my bike without any problems, aside from typical maintanence. I would love to upgrade to a trek 5200, but just cant afford it. This is my first year racing and have managed a few top 10 finishes on it, despite being a 'low-end' bike. I guess that just proves that it doesnt matter what you ride (as long as it is
mechanically sound), but rather how you ride. So overall, i would say you cant go wrong with the 2300 it is a sound bike, assuming it was well taken care of...
