Why do you post?Len J

Those of you who post. Why? What is it you want to share?

Those of you who only lurk. Why don't you post?

I suspect there are as many reasons as posters. I'm just curious.

Thanks.

Beats watching T.V.DINOSAUR

At least it requires using a couple of brain cells. It's also my contact to the cycling world, my cycling club is about 60 miles away and most my riding is done lone wolf style. Perhaps I can share some experience (experience=mistakes) and allow some sole the misfortune of pulling some of the boners I have. We don't live in a perfect world...it's all about sharing knowledge...

My TV viewing time is way down. I try to post or read a book or mag rather than watch most of the swill that passes for entertainment on TV. I've gotten to the point where I even pass the "prestige" shows like West Wing, not wanting to get hooked on any particular show or TV in general. Once the kids are asleep it's generally time to hop on-line and find out what's going on with other cyclists. Besides, every now and then, you can actually get a good tip off the site. More frequently, it's just pure entertainment: some of the wacky posts by guys like Breck make my day.

I have been e-mail corresponding with a few people on this board lately and have thoroughly enjoyed it. E-mails give you an opportunity to explore subjects that are better left off the board. I've found that I have interests (apart from cycling), backgrounds, and people in common with others on the board.

Better vision through chemistryWailer

I suspect Breck-man has achieved his highly enlightened state through old world chemistry and the more than occassional bong hit. Just an opinion, no offence, I could be wrong...

I don't know just where I'm going
But I'm gonna try for the kingdom if I can
'Cause it makes me feel like I'm a man
When I put a spike into my vein
Then I tell you things aren't quite the same
When I'm rushing on my run
And I feel just like Jesus' son
And I guess that I just don't know
And I guess that I just don't know

I have made the big decision
I'm gonna try to nullify my life
'Cause when the blood begins to flow
When it shoots up the dropper's neck
When I'm closing in on death

And you can't help me, not you guys
Or all you sweet girls with all your sweet talk
You can all go take a walk
And I guess I just don't know
And I guess that I just don't know

I wish that I was born a thousand years ago
I wish that I'd sailed the darkened seas
On a great big clipper ship
Going from this land here to that
On a sailor's suit and cap

Away from the big city
Where a man cannot be free
Of all the evils of this town
And of himself and those around
Oh, and I guess that I just don't know
Oh, and I guess that I just don't know

Heroin, be the death of me
Heroin, it's my wife and it's my life, ha-ha
Because a mainer to my vein
Leads to a center in my head
And then I'm better off than dead

Because when the smack begins to flow
I really don't care anymore
About all the Jim-Jims in this town
And all the politicians making crazy sounds
And everybody putting everybody else down
And all the dead bodies piled up in mounds

'Cause when the smack begins to flow
Then I really don't care anymore

Ah, when that heroin is in my blood
And the blood is in my head
Man thank God that I'm as good as dead
And thank your God that I'm not aware
And thank God that I just don't care
And I guess that I just don't know
Oh, and I guess that I just don't know

- "Heroin" by Velvet Underground.

A true classic and one that Breck can appreciate. PSA: Kids, don't do heroin. You will love it till you die and that won't take long. Besides, it's hard to ride your bike when you don't have one cuz you sold it to feed the monkey...of course you could always ride the one you stole to pay for your next fix. Aren't drugs cool? Look what they did for Frigo.

Neither your response nor Dinasour's surprise me, All of your posts reflect this motivation. You are two of the posters that keep me coming back. Thanks.

Product info...techniques...strategy...

Where else would you get all this cycling related knowledge. In return I try to offer some of my own. Although I usually get flamed for trying. :-)

I post in the rare event I may have something to say. I post in the not-so-rare event of issuing a response to the whoknowswhat I see posted. Monkey see, monkey do.

I post general information directly attributed to MY experience.

I post BS, flame, and generally worthless whoknowswhat becaiuse I have a PC, DSL, and plenty of spare attitude.

I consider my advise/post/whatever BUYER BEWARE.

I consider what I read the same. Hope you do also.

I post to show my vast knowledge and superior intellect.

Watch me, sometimes I will answer every post. I have more posts than everyone. Note however that I never initiate a post, I only answer them to show others my engineering skills.

It is also a great thrill just to insult others.

You are not your job. You are not the money in your bank account. You are not the bike you ride. You are not how much money is in your wallet. You are not your freaking team jersey. You are the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world and sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken.*

I lurk just to be entertained by grzy mnky's rants. He, (and a few others), really crack me up.
I rarely post as I still haven't bought my first road bike yet and don't feel qualified to give advice to others. I've been pondering on what to buy for the past two months, but have decided to wait for a while until other more significant moments in my life/career have passed by.
