Can you put an 8 spd shimano chain with campy cassettes and chainrings?

Yeah, you can but why? A SEDIS chain is stronger and will probably shift better. I have found that the only stuff that requires a specific chain (10sp excluded) is Shimano. With the others Campy, SunTour, Sram... you can use almost any chain, even a Shimano.

I run a DA chain on my Campy Record 10sp cassette without any problem.

Have you compared the widths between the D/A 9 and the Campy 10 chains? Glad to hear it works, but just curious on the specs. Thanks

All you have to do is look at a Shimano chain on a Campy 10 drivetrain and see that this isn't an "optimal" setup. A carfull inspection will show that the chain really doesn't fit properly.
