I have just got back from Grenoble in France which is the capital of the Alps and have just been over my first Cols. This is a fantastic place to go to cycle and would recommend it to anyone. On one descent I even saw a riders name in fading paint on the road.

Anyone else ridden the area?

Never ridden there, but I was in Val d'Isere in January skiing. Same general part of France (The Savoie) I think. I was drooling over the roads in that area, even in winter. Went right through Les Arc on the way up to Val. I'm pretty sure a TDF stage (a time trial I think) terminated up in Val a few years ago. Awesome terrain, I'm envious of your opportunity to ride up there!
Yep, have done some of the biggies.J.S.

Cols du Galibier, Telegraphe and Fren'e, also Alp du Huez. These are alot like MTB climbs that go on and on and on.

I'm planning on taking at least a year off in few years, taking my bike to Europe, and riding everywhere, with no particular place to go. As a devoted climber, I plan on doing as many cols as possible. So my question is, what are the roads like? They don't look that wide. Is there a lot of traffic you have to deal with?
