|hi everyone |
any votes/opinions/advice on which of the two bikes I should get? I'm a intermediate rec rider who rides a few centuries yearly with about 15-17 mph avge. The bikes are the same price, each with 105 componants (mixed with brand ones). Cannondale has a dedo handlebar. Each is 2001 model with ritchey wheels.
Thanks. Enjoying the board so far.

|I got the Cannondale about 2 months ago and couldn't be happier. I am not a racer or anything, so it suits me just fine. The 105 components work great, although I have not used Shimano's higher up groups so I cannot compare them all. It does have a Tiagra f.d. and cassette, I figured I would ride them till they wear out and worry about replacing them then. Mine has Mavic CXP-21 rims with Coda hubs and you said the one you were looking at has Ritcheys. The wheels are a little heavy. I am used to the Bontrager Race Lights on my mountain bike so these feel heavy. I suppose that will be my first upgrage. Beyond the heavy wheels, I think it is a great bike. The frame does not seem to have a harsh ride for me, probably the longest ride I have put on it yet is 40 miles and I did not feel beat up at all.
I cannot say anything about the Specialized. I do like their bikes, my mountain bike is an S-Works and I love it.

|I was very close to making the 99 R600 my first Road Bike but chickened out because, then, I didn't want to spend the money. Ended up getting the 99 Allez Triple Sport (no carbon fork, uletgra) simply because it was ridiculouslessly cheap ($750). While my Allez has been great, the Cannondale was much nicer. My Allez starts to beat me up after 40 miles or so.|

Went through the same decision about 4 months ago, the only difference is I was also looking at the Lemond Buenos Aires.
I bought the Cannondale. I really like it. I have had nothing but good luck with everything but the rear wheel. I weight 215, and the radial/2x rear wheel just isn't made for guys like me. I put some Cosomos's on the bike and it just got even better.
Some people bash the Coda brakes/crank and hubs. I think the work just fine for me. I am not a racer, but do ride 100 miles or so per week at a 15-17mph avg pace with lots of hills. This bike climbs nice, and is very smooth. I just got to borrow a Serotta Legend Ti for a long ride last week. I was amazed that the difference between the bikes was not more pronouced. The Serotta was smoother and stiffer, but not $4,000 worth.
Buy the R600 and love it, just be sure to get it fitted to you correctly!
P.S. are you going with the Stealth Black, or Red? Mine is Steath!
