GIRO--a question about the times??bear

How safe is the lead on the Giro with 15 riders within a MINUTE OF THE LEADER? Is that a good Lead?or is it just the good riders waiting to make a move on the lead for real ( for good)??
I notice the same bunch finishing together with about the same times about 15 places back,,,all within minute of the leader?
race doesn't even start until the mountainsfreespirit

While I'd rather be ahead than behind, there is huge time to be made or lost in the mountains. The first half of the Giro is for show for the sprinters.
Way too early to worry about thatmr_spin

It's not safe at all. But there's still two more weeks, with some big mountains coming up and a long time trial. The times should change dramatically. That's also why you see the same bunch finishing together--no use losing any time now because you may need it later.

Right now we are dealing in seconds. Once they hit the real mountains we'll be looking at minutes. By the end of the race Jan Ullrich will be 10 or 20 minutes behind either Gazelli, Gotti, De Luca, Gotti or Azevedo etc.
