|I have to attend some work-related training for the better part of a week in Oak Brook. Anyone ride around there frequently that can recommend some good routes for a ride? Are there any?
I don't know the area at all, so if you can spell any routes out with street names, that would be great. Looking for something mainly that won't get me killed/mugged/trampled/flattened, etc.
I really don't want to be gone a week in the heart of racing season, but hey, gotta do what you gotta do. So while I'm there, I'm going to have to make the most of it.
Any help would be most appreciated...

|Most of the group rides I am familiar with are in the northern suburbs. Oak Park is a western suburb. If you have a car, and can get to Evanston, here are some very good rides with sprints and some race pace.
T/Th 5:45 AM (25 miles)
Sat/Sun 7:30 AM (60 miles)
Wed 6:00 PM (35 miles)
I imagine the T/Th morning rides will be impossible, as well as the Wed night ride. However, the Sat/Sun Judson rides are great. Traffic will be non-existant between Oak Park and Evanston at 6:45 AM on the weekends, so the drive should be only 30 minutes or so.
E-mail me if you would like more info. email@example.com.
If you want something close to Oak Park, try Lickton's Bicycle shop. They will be able to direct you to group rides in Oak Park (so much nicer than just going out on your own).

|Staying there at least, which is only a short trip away from where my training is. I'll be on Finley Road.
The Evanston rides sound awesome (and I'm familar with the blue blur that is the Turin team), but you're probably right in that it's too hard to get to by 6 pm.
Any good shops in Downers Grove that can point to an group rides? Group rides would be nice, but beggars can't be choosers. Any reasonable routes that wouldn't get me run over would be appreciated.

|You aren't by any chance going to be at the corporate head quarters for a large out-sourcing service company? Probably not...
Anyway, I work on Finely. If you avoid rush hour, Finley isn't a bad ride between Butterfield and Ogden. Warrenville road is quiet on off hours too. Overall, though, the Western suburbs aren't good for road riding. Lots of culdasacks and busy streets.
You are more than welcome to join me and Delia for our Tuesday night club. Of course you don't have to ride with us, we'll introduce you to the big kids. Its in Barrington, but I don't have any problem getting there by 6:30 if I leave at 5:15. It is a church group, so expect a little "message" up front and someone will pray. Its a good ride if you don't mind the spiritual part. I can also get you a map of the route if you just want to drive out there and ride the thing solo.
Anywho, I'll post more info tomorrow if I have any.

|Thanks for the invite Kristin. Tuesday, obviously with the holiday, is the first day of my training there, and I haven't seen an itinerary, other than a start time. So... I'm not sure what time we'll wrap it up. So I *might* be able to make it Tuesday but I'm just not sure at this point.
If you had directions or a map of the route, that would be great. I'm not sure I'll be able to make it by the time the ride starts, but if I can, I'll be the guy on the blue Schwinn... and I'll look for you and your Italian ride. :-)
You can email it to me at firstname.lastname@example.org

|I don't have an electronic copy of the route map, just a hard copy. I can fax it to you if you want.|| |
