|Well I decided I'd order Campy Electrons today and since Colorado Cyclist's prices aren't that enormously off the euro sources prices for these wheels I thought I'd give them my business. I called early today and couldn't get though without being on hold forever. I called Excel and they were out of all Campy wheels except for two rear Shamal tubulars. I called Licktons and they were out as well. I got home tonight and tried Colorado Cyclist again and got right through. I asked what Campy wheels they had in stock and they said "All of them". Well alrighty then! "If I order them tonight, when will they go out and when should I have them?" Sales person says "They should go out Thursday." What? What's up with that? "It'll take three days for them to go through our shop." Go through your shop? What's that? "Every wheel, no matter what it is goes through our shop and that takes 3 days."
I had heard enough and was suspicious. Why do anything to a brand new wheel from a manufacturer? Or if you need to do something to them, why not do it when you get them so you can process the order right away after someone has paid for them? Sounds to me like this is just a way that they can say "we have everything in stock". I could get the wheels from anyone if I give them three days to track them down. I'm tempted to do just that but from a shop that told me the straight story from the get go.
Am I out of line here? Is there some justification for holding an order for three days?
Still no wheels on order.

|Why not go with the 2001 model and order the Nucleons from Total Cycling. I have always gotten fine service from them. $540 can't be beat.|

|This would be fine with me. I think CC is a reliable outfit. Let's see, Tuesday they sit on the bench and get checked out, tires mounted etc, Wednesday they get boxed and processed for shipping, Thursday they go on the UPS truck. Sounds reasonable.|

|I don't do caffeine but thanks for your concern.
I also wasn't ordering tires. Again, if they are going to check them out then why don't they do so beforehand? I trust Campagnolo's quality control, as I do Mavic and other wheel manufacturers. When I've bought the countless wheelsets at my old LBSs I always picked them up in their unopened boxes. That would be the case again but where I live Shimano is the language and the bike shops haven't heard of 10 spd compatible.
I bet if I called CC back and strongly rejected the idea that I get a previously opened box of wheels (not that I care) and that if they had them I'd want them sent out tomorrow, they wouldn't be able to do it.
I've ordered thousands of dollars of gear from CC in the past with no problems. This wheel thing is new on me. And being on hold for 10 minutes never to talk to anyone three different times before having success is not the CC remember.
On one of these boards not long ago was someone talking about a set of VeloMaxes that could have used a look before sending them out. What happened to the three day look with his wheels?
Yeah, I'm picky of how I'm delt with in business. I'm a business person myself. I find it hard to believe that what CC is doing is what the majority of their customers want.

|Alpine, relax a little. Three days is nothing in the high end bike world. I'd be worried if they WEREN'T busy......|

No excuse in this modern day and age for not shipping the wheels out pronto. Just what exactly do they do to them and why do they need to do it when no one else does? Hmmmm, me thinks that there order processing and inventory management isn't up to snuff. More like they have to actually get the wheels from the distribution source and that takes three days. You wanna see fast? Give bikeworld.com a ring - you call them now and you could probably have those wheels by Thu. or Fri. at the latest. Unfortunately they don't sell Campy stuff - but they do have Mavic. I know this doesn't help you, but I use it to maked the point that some people have adapted to the online environment better than others. The really slow operations are typically the ones that have been around for a while and are still trying to adapt to this on line thing. They're basically a catalog company that takes orders via the net and phone.
Next thing you'll find out is that CC ships everything ground with those bozos from UPS. Opps, I pro'ly offended someone, but those guys ARE bozos.

|I've ordered several wheels from CC. In each and every case they claim they unbox the wheels from the set, check spoke tension, and true the wheels before they go out.
Every wheel I have ever gotten from them has had the box opened, and the wheel checked before shipping.
They honor there warranty, accept returns within 30 days with a full refund, no restocking charge, and even will accept a defective wheel in return under the factory warrany.
I had a Zipp Speed Weaponry wheel which after a year of riding developed a defective hub. They gave me a full refund towards a new set of wheels.
Not a bad deal for a three day wait and a little extra money.

|I would have to agree w/ GregJ and MGS. It is better to say 3 days and ship in 1 than say 1 and ship in 3.
Remember, buy from TotalCycling and you don't have a US warranty.

|Quit b!tchin'.... you must be one of those that lays on the horn in traffic jams. BTW, thanks for the heads up on who's got the wheels in stock. Been looking and it seems nobody has them in stock. So I just called and bought mine from CC- and they told me they were the LAST pair.|

|Maybe you are one of those lazy types that can't make a phone call to see if something is in stock. Why didn't you call CC in the first place? Also, every place I called could have the wheels on the way to me within two days except CC. Your last pair isn't the last pair and it's likely that I'll have mine before you do. I'll be riding on them come this weekend.
Hey, ask CC if they can unpackage everything you buy from them and check it out for you. You never know, that Avocet might have a broken wire, that pump might not be able to reach 130psi and your Vista light might only work in the flash mode.
I say they should hold all of your orders for three days while they adjust your gear for you. I on the other hand can take care of myself.

|I have had several dealings and some returns (even past 30 days) with CC and have found them to be probably the best on-line retailer I have ever dealt with. I would not hesitate to give them my business again.|| |
