Does anyone have any past experience trying to get a company to sponsor a triathlon team?

I'm 17 yrs old and I have a runner and a swimmer of the same age. I'm looking to get an in town shop pay the race entry fees and in return I would have the store's name on my jersey and the runner's t shirt. just a thought...if anyone has any ideas or advice I would appreciate it...

thanks in advance

doc,
It's all about advertising!! You will be 'advertising' a sponsors product and/or services. Some things to ask yourself:
1. Will our sponsor be gettings thier money's worth?
2. How can we (or I) stand out from others seeking sponsorships?
3. Is there other things that a potential sponsor would like us (me) to do or be involved with?
4. Who should I target for sponsorship? And why?

I would suggest putting together a couple things... a resume, brochure, or sponsorship outline (what you would like to receive vs. what you are willing to give). Approaching any sponsor with any open hand without letting them know what they will get in exchange, will not be very productive.

Good Luck!!
