Has anyone done the Mountains of Misery Century coming up on 5/27?
Particulars:
103 Miles

Last 5 miles is a catagory 1 climb to the finish.
Best time last year was 5:18 (Must be an animal)

Advise on gearing, early pace, etc would be appreciated.

If you can't find some 1st hand experience you could try to get some USGS maps and figure the % grade. Places like REI and local outdoor stores should have the large scale/small area charts (opps, getting all nautical again). 12-27 on a 39/53 should get you up most everything, but it all comes down to the defeinition of a cat. 1 climb. Anyone?

For on-line topo maps, try topozone.com
It helps to have a t-1 at work for connection speed though.
Thank Doug Sloan, I think it was him that posted that link last year.

According to the elevation profile on the website, The last climb is 2300 ft in the last 5 miles with 1700 of this in the last 3 miles. At the end of a 103 mile ride after 7700 feet of previous climbing, I'm a little nervous about 39x27. Am I overreacting?
