I was just wondering what gearing the PRO"S use?? Non humans like Lance and company? It cant be a secret becasue they are out in the open!!or maybe they use stock bikes? Yeah right!!

They change their gearing depending on the terrain and the individual riders style. Flat races something like a 53/42 up front and an 11-21 cassette at the back. For Alpine/Dolomite stages something like a 53/39 up front and as big as a 25 or so at the back if it's a tough day. A lot can depend on the way a rider climbs. For example Laurent Fignon was great at spinning so he'd sit spin a 39/23 all day, whereas Sean Kelly would mash a 39/21 on the same climb.

Read a recent interview with Lance Armstrong and he said he likes as big as a 28 on the back sometimes in the mountains. I think it was in last months procycling.
