Finally!!! Too bad it took this idiotic move on the part of the TdF selection committee to get the UCI to do what needed to be done a long time ago.

"Union Cycliste International president Hein Verbruggen said Friday that Tour de France organizers have placed parochial interests ahead of the sport...Verbruggen said that the decision by Leblanc and five other selectors could ultimately damage cycling financially..."I can only do my best for next season," he said. "That is why a dossier will be put together which will lay out the rules as to who should be invited."

It was stupid to exclude Pantani, the Michael Irvin of cycling. He may be a pain but he's all heart and a real draw. I was interested to see how he'd do - now maybe he can channel it all into the Giro.
