I am in the process of buying a new bicycle. I am looking at a Guru "Foco" (model) bicycle. Guru is a custom bicycle builder in Montreal, Canada. Is anyone familiar with their bikes in terms of quality and ride. I have checked the products review board but no comments posted.

FYI Simon Whitfield rode a Guru bicycle in the Sydney Olympics.

Never ridden one...but have seen and talked with those folks. Nice bikes, nice people. A bit pricy for aluminum (at least the frame I saw), but like mentioned...looked pretty trick. But, always a tad leary on a 'new' company. I might wait to see if they are around in a year or two.

They have been around for at least five years. They only recently started selling their bikes outside of Quebec. Make very nice Al and steel bikes.

My local LBS sell's Guru bikes, custom to order. A couple of the employees have them, and the build quality is pretty nice. I'v also seen them on organized rides and, in chatting with the owners, they all appear to be satisfied. Depending on how strong or weak the Canadian dollar is, the prices can be competitive or even a good deal. I haven't heard enough about the bikes to convince me they're doing anything better/different than some other custom builds I can get in the States.
