bad headtube on new frame?kevcp

Headtube too large for headset race. I cannot press the headset cups into my new frame because the headtube is too wide. The headset cups can move freely. It's not a size issue 1 or 11/8''. Headtube and cane creek headset are 1''. Is this a bad frame?

... hmmmmmmmmmmm, given your description, I'd say somethings amiss.

The whole idea of traditional headset installation relies on tight tolerances 'tween the interfacing surfaces... which interface is out of whack is yet to be determined. Is it also a new headset? Did someone face the headtube?

Either way, I wouldn't compromize on the installation. A sloppy fit could cause further ovalization of the headtube over time.

Be the bike.

Maybe cane creek sent you wrong size cups. Current size is 26.4 mm crown race and 30.2mm cups. All threadless 1" stuff is supposed to be this standard, and most threaded is too. The non current JIS headset dimensions are 27.0 and 30.0 mm for the cups.A few months ago a guy had a cane creek headset with wouldn't fit his bike either.Might be the frame, might not.
