| My buddy crashed in that race today. | Highgear Apr 29, 2001 2:09 PM | | he hit a major pothole, tocoed his new Ritchey front wheel and snapped his new Ouzo fork. You would think that they would make the course safe and fill them in, he was only 4 miles from the finnish line. |
| My buddy crashed in that race today. | JKolios Apr 29, 2001 3:08 PM | | I wish I didn't have to write this but I'm the one that crashed at today's race. It was the last lap of the 35+ Munson RR on RT32 about 4m from the finish when in the group I hit a major pothole sqare on at 26 mph according to my Polar download. At 1 hr 29 min 10 sec I'm doing 26 mph and 5 sec later I'm down to 0! The impact threw me over the bars, I slid on my right side but most of the damage was to my front (brand new) Ritchey aero wheel which was trashed and my brand new Reynolds Ouzo Pro fork which broke in half! Well, that's racing, I guess! |
| Ruined Ouzo.... | Brian B. Apr 29, 2001 6:16 PM | | Wondering how the fork broke? Did both "legs" snap off? Did the steerer snap? I don't want to be morbid, and I'm sorry for your crash, but I'd love to see a picture or two of the trashed fork.
I've always wondered how a fork might break from a pothole impact. Yesterday I slammed into a medium deep pothole while cruising on a moderate descent, (steel Bianchi & Kestrel cf fork)... no damage, but it made me think...
