What makes road biking interesting? It seems to me like you just ride and ride along the road and it would become very boring...what attracts people to this sport?

Nothing. It's a total waste of time, money and effort. ;-)

It's a zen thing with a very fine line between the pleasure and the pain.

You wanna talk boring: try explaining to me the fascination of playing golf, or watching any friggin' ball game on TV.
agreed on the golf/[pick one]ball thing. rant withheld. nmHaiku d'état

I dont get to practice too many others. There are so many that I would love to master. Check out the ESPN ad above.

I'd rather watch football on TV!
You can see what's going on much more clearly and the beer is way closer. Plus you get closer views of the T&A squad as they attempt to distract you during boring referee discussions and time-outs!
Try playing it. 10X more fun.BOBBY J

The strategy is unreal.

Nothing like swooping around a nicely paved turn on a panoramic descent. Nothing like the zen-like trance you can get into on a long climb. There's an ability to focus on one's pedaling technique Etc., on a road bike that's not possible on a mountain bike. Try riding 200 miles with 16,000' of elevation gain in one day, on a mountain bike.
I also mountain bike, and that riding helps my coordination, balance and strength in ways that the road bike doesn't.

Just give me a bike. Any bike!
