85'inseam, does 57cm frame sound right?newbie67

Im wondering if I measured correctly. Im 6ft tall, with a 85cm inseam. Would a 57' frame be my correct size? How much different would a 58' frame be from a 57'?

Im about to buy my first road bike and I want to make sure I buy right.

At one bike shop I rode a 57', and it felt pretty good. At another shop I rode a 58' because they didn't have any 57's, the guy said a 58' would be fine. Is this so, or is he just trying to sell me his bike? Any help is truly appreciated. Thank YOu

on many things. For example, are you talking center to center (c-c) measurements or center to top (c-t) for the frame size? There is a substantial difference between a 58 c-c and c-t frame. I have an 88 inseam and ride a 58 c-c. If the guy at the second shop was trying to sell you a 58 c-c frame with an 85 inseam, he was probably "just trying to sell [you] his bike." Many web sites out there provide detailed information about sizing; they include Colorado Cyclist.
